Don’t I Know This Song

Ok, how can I not start with ‘Blurred Lines’ by Robin Thicke and Pharell – and the Marvin Gaye track ‘Got To Give It Up’. Possibly the most high profile and notorious song sample of recent years which resulted in Thicke claiming that he was too drunk and high to even remember writing the song – cue huge tabloid trash interest and subsequent career crash.

Song sampling has been going on forever. It can break: The Verve and ‘Bitter Sweet Symphony’ never recovered from their court case. Or make: ‘I’ll Be missing You’ is a HUGE tune. Fat Boy Slim made a whole career from sampling and mixing other records.

The claim that there are no new ideas makes it near impossible to have a truly unique idea.

I love the concept of Don’t I Know This Song Infographic – charting song sampling success over the years.

The graphic has a feel of an old style music system (what we used to play music on before we had iPods) and completely reflects the feel of vinyl/music/the old top ten.

The header is strong with a bold title and clearly tells us what the graphic is about.

I love the use of the green/red lights to indicate the song popularity and the volume knob to the left gives an added flourish.

Each section is clearly divided and the information is clearly presented in an attractive visual form.

Overall I think this is a great piece of content from IDJnow.com of real interest and stylish design – impressed. A 9 out of 10.
