The brain can be visually dismissive of something that does not hold interest this is because it does not find a ‘pattern match’ to it. In contrast, if something is visually different from what is considered the ‘norm’, i.e. it interrupts our visual line of field as something we can’t pattern match – this also flags our attention.
The reason I make this explanation is that at first glance, Invokana and Diabetic Ketoacidosis infographic is not something that could be considered of general interest and you might think ‘why review this?‘ Therein lies the point: this infographic is not designed to be of general interest, it for a very specific niche audience. Therefore, I shall review this infographic based on my usual metrics of its relevance to audience.
Invokana Lawsuit infographic is a piece of content created by DrugDangers.com website – who are: ‘committed to providing information on a range of medications and medical devices that have serious complications‘. It is quite clear that the relevance of the content for this audience and site is high and this infographic would be of interest and use to those browsing this site. So, my metric of relevance scores top marks.
Some of my favourite infographics of all time are health related safety information style posters. And I see echoes of this in the design. The bold colour palette of yellow and black with a highlight of red is evocative of a health ‘warning’ poster and pleasing in it’s limitation of colour.
Each section is clearly divided with a band of colour making it easy to digest each segment of information. The information is also clearly illustrated with simple graphics to represent the subject.
The infographic focuses on its subject and doesn’t try to over complicate with too much information or a confusing story. It stays on topic and gives a clear overview of Invokana and concerns raised. Again, this is top marks for an infographic: clear delivery of message.
Overall this is highly relevant, clear in its delivery and a bold minimalist design. Therefore, an 8 out of 10.
