Know Your Market

Renting is on the rise with home ownership at a low and most houses priced out of first time buyers. For me, renting is forever associated with students and the classic TV programme Rising Damp also comes to mind: the lives of Rigsby, Miss Jones, Alan and Philip still make me laugh.

Not all landlords are as miserly, and seedy as Rigsby but then not all are as harmless. The self made Nicholas van Hoogstraten made a reported £500 million through property but was sentenced to 10 years for manslaughter of a business rival and was a reportedly thuggish landlord.

Know Your Market infographic tackles the subject of what tenants have to say about their landlords. Surveys are usually focused on the behaviour of tenants so it’s an interesting view to see how landlords are behaving.

What I first find surprising is that over 20% of people surveyed rent a terrace house and studio apartments were the least common. 32% didn’t understand or read their rental agreement. 76% of people surveyed are happy with their landlord – not a bad reflection on the state of the UK rental market.

Know Your Market infographic is bold and graphic in its design. Each section is clearly divided and uses strong colour to define. each statistic is illustrated with relevant icons and the typography is clear and readable. I do like the limited colour palette and the accent of red subtly used to highlight the tabs leading you down through each section.

Overall I give Know Your Market infographic from CIA-landlords.com a 7.5 out of 10.
