Mazda History and Technology

I am a closet petrol head and was brought up on cars, it was all motor racing and messing around in the garage fixing up cars. A few of my friends had souped up Japanese super cars such as Subaru and Lancia. Mazda, I consider, to be best known for the MX5 ‘hairdessers car’ which are considered a great track car. I have never lost my love for driving and a road trip is my favourite kind of holiday so a car infographic gets my attention of the mark.

Mazda History and Technology Infographic from Budds Mazda is a monster size graphic at over 17,000 pixels tall but I think this has gone over the limits of how large an infographic should be. There are so many interesting sections this would have benefited from being broken down into a series or even a scrolling page article. This graphic suffers from information overload – there is just too much to read that even the most die-hard Mazda fan would struggle to get through. I like the history of Mazda at the top and the sections on Mazda technology but this section is too in-depth for an infographic.

The information is very interesting but as I said it needs to be condensed or broken down into a series of graphics. The design is reasonable: clean, fresh colours but overly text heavy and the type size is bordering on too small to read without zooming in which negates the point of an infographic, which is to glean facts and data at a glance.

Clearly a great deal of work and research has gone into this piece and I mark it up on points for this reason but I think the information could have been presented better in a different format.

Overall Mazda History and Technology Infographic scores a 5 out of 10.

I have added a clipped version of the infographic (too big to post) and the full version can be viewed here…
