Why Care About Pollution

Oh my, where to start on pollution? I am a huge advocate for alternative energies and find it very difficult to understand why they have not been adopted as standard energy sources.

I recall very clearly when I was a child my Grandmother’s next door neighbour had solar panels on her house. She was German and seemed very exotic to me, her house smelled of spicy sausage and the interior looked so different from what I was used to. When it was explained to me what solar panels were and the fact that a solar power system saved so much money on a household bill I couldn’t understand why everyone didn’t have them. It seemed (and still does) so obvious to me.

I think everyone knows that America is a very resource hungry nation, backed by by the statistic that they consume the most oil in the world (19 million barrels a day). I like to imagine what would happen to society if oil suddenly ran out and there was no more electricity – the pandemonium this would cause when people couldn’t charge their iPhones! Back to living with nature.

Energy consumption is such a huge part of modern life that, moving forward, we must consider how we source that energy.

Why Care About Pollution Infographic is a bold, illustrative graphic that delivers statistics on pollution in the US and offers some benefits of switching to solar power; such as a 30% residential solar investment tax credit.

The typography is clear and stats are highlighted for easy reading. The illustrations are crisp and represent the subject well. I like the use of background colour which starts as a dark heavy presence at the top of the graphic and gradually becomes greener and brighter towards the bottom.

Overall this is an infographic of social interest and delivers information in a pleasing visual way. Why Care About Pollution Infographic gets a 7 out of 10.
